So, who is this journalist?

I am a freelance reporter based in Squamish, Canada.

But I didn’t start here.

First, I built a climbing gym in a fast growing but small town on B.C.’s west coast. I was driven to build a community around an activity I was deeply passionate about.

From that decade of building and running the business, I learned to embrace the discomfort, find a way to be curious while under pressure, and breakdown big problems like a climbing route: working them one "move" at a time. But after managing the changing policies and community impacts of the pandemic I found that I had a new appreciation for the importance of a strong journalism ecosystem and trustworthy news sources and it drove me to make a new plan.

In 2023, I sold my business and was accepted to the Columbia Journalism School’s Master of Science program. There, I focused on learning the ethics and processes of both climate and conflict reporting. I graduated in May 2024 and was honored with the Jean Anderson Award for Climate Reporting and a 9-month fellowship with the Columbia Journalism Review for 2024–2025.

Since then, I've returned to B.C.'s coast to explore stories closer to home. I’ve brought the mindset that helped me succeed in business (and in climbing) to journalism—both in the stories I tell and how I approach them. I’m keen to keep covering complex topics through investigative and long-form reporting and lean into the uncomfortable conversations around trusting news and trusting journalists.

Please be in touch if you have a story idea, or you’d just like to talk shop about journalism—it is one of my favourite topics.
